Accor $10 Race to Cure Kids
The Accor $10 Race from Auckland to Queenstown is expected to attract a field of 40 competitors, who will aim to race the length of the country on their wits, raising funds for Cure Kids on the way.
Formerly known as the Queenstown $10 Challenge the race has been revamped but the spirit remains the same - for competitors to get from Auckland to Queenstown in three days on just $10.
"We are very excited about running this race thanks to the support of our naming and accommodation sponsor Accor along with media sponsor More FM", says Cure Kids general manager Thelma French. "It will be a lot of fun and at the same time we hope to raise significant funds for medical research."
The race is being held from October 5-7 and Accor marketing manager, New Zealand and Fiji Sonya Rossiter, says the company is delighted to be associated with the event which calls for innovation and resourcefulness.
"In a race like this we will see some real ingenuity. But above all it will take Cure Kids into New Zealand's heartland, raising the profile throughout the country."
"We are expecting to see a lot of regional rivalry, which will add to the flavour of the race" says Sonya. "Challenges will be held on the way to create more competition."
A number of celebrities and More FM personalities will compete in the race and More FM National Director of Marketing & Sponsorship Sarah Porter, says the network will provide national coverage of the event.
"We will be promoting it widely and hopefully have a number of our own contestants, including personalities and listeners, competing. We will definately be getting the message out and fundraising as much money as possible for Cure Kids."
Cure Kids ambassador Lana Coc-Kroft is a former winner of the $10 Challenge and she will add her support in the build up to the event.
Competitors taking part in the Accor $10 Race will raise a minimum of $2,500 as part of their entry.
"We really expect to get a big following for this race," says Thelma. "People who have competed in the past $10 challenges look on it as one of their greatest experiences."
